Today’s podcast looks back at the year 1965. Ah, 1965. The year I turned 6. That was 50 years ago (how old will I be in 8 days?). In 1965 there weren’t many “albums” as such – most songs were made to be released as singles. Remember 45’s – little 7″ discs with a song on each side?
Most of the songs I put on this podcast were released as singles – the one on-specific singles ended up as a B side on a single. But the songs were great anyway. Radio was so much better back then, I think. You would always hear many different sounds back then. Little by little music got segregated into different genres. and different radio stations would focus on specific types of music and not play music that didn’t fit heir sound. What a loss.
So let’s look back 50 years and listen to Bob Dylan, The Yardbirds, The Who, The Beatles, The Animals, James Brown, The Supremes, Junior Walker & the All-Stars, Marvin Gaye, Billy Stewart, Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs, The Rolling Stones, The Lovin’ Spoonful, The Vogues, The McCoys, The Strangeloves, Nancy Sinatra, The Mama’s and the Papa’s, Petula Clark, and the Moody Blues.
