It’s back to school time – hope everyone’s got their pencil boxes ready for the year. School time makes me nostalgic for the days when I started back to school at the New Sharon School – in 1970 I was going onto Mrs. Fiddler’s 5th grade classroom with the same gang I had gone to school with since 2nd grade. There wasn’t a lot of people moving in and out of the District back in those days. 1970 was one of my best years as a child – not sure why, but age 11 (at the end of the year) was an early highlight.
Music probably had a lot to do with it. Today’s podcast looks back at some of the best songs of the year 1970 (45 years ago) – many of which I owned on 45 if not on albums. I got Imagine by John Lennon for my birthday, as an example. Let’s think back and listen to Rod Stewart, Van Morrison, Delaney & Bonnie, The Allman Brothers Band, The Beatles, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, Derek & The Dominoes, Neil Young, The Velvet Underground, The MC5, Aretha Franklin, Al Green, Curtis Mayfield, and Buddy Miles.
This special Wednesday edition of the podcast is available at brennick.net. You can download or stream this podcast as well as all the other podcasts I’ve done over the past year pus. Leave comments and suggestions, and share as you can. Thank you for listening.
