Happy snow day! The snow turned out to be not too bad today – school delays, but that’s the extent of it around here.
I’ve had this podcast kicking around awhile. I don’t do a best of 2016 for music – hard for me to rank music in diverse genres. I love reading the year-end best of lists, even if I usually don’t agree with them totally. Anyway, I started to put together music from 2016, usually starting with albums I saw on year-end lists (but you’ll find no Beyonce or even Bowie here).
I ended up with a country-inspired first set, a more pop second set, a soul/r&b third set, and finally other music. I started the podcast with my favorite release from 2016, Lydia Loveless’ Real. This seemed to stay bubbling under most people’s lists, but for me it soared, and I ended up with most of her music by the end of the year.
So let’s enjoy a look back at 2016 with Lydia Loveless, Margo Price, Drive-By Truckers, the Handsome Family, the Flat Five, the Monkees, P.J. Harvey, Bleached, Blood Orange, Michael Kiwanuka, Esperanza Spaulding, Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, Radiohead, Savages, and Young Magic.
