Waiting for my coffee to brew. Getting the coffee ready in the morning is one of my last rituals – I’ve stripped away many of the rituals of my life, but getting out the grinder, pouring the beans in , grinding the beans, getting water into the maker, putting in a filter, pouring the ground coffee into the filter, and pressing start is still very satisfying to me. During the week, I generally get the coffeemaker ready the night before, so a little is lost (the more tired I am in doing the ritual, the easier it is for me to awaken to the day) when I prepare the evening before. But on the weekends, especially Sunday, the ritual is on. Praise be to Burundi (Fair Trade coffee all the way).
